Election Update Among Other Things

Thanks for your prayers during the Kenyan elections. We all held our breath as we waited for election day to pass and as we waited for results a few days later. Everyone was nervous about potential violence. Kenyatta was elected for another term and there were pockets of violence in certain areas, but not anything near what happened in 2007. Everyone was relieved. Then the opposition formally filed complaint that the election results were fraudulent and we are all holding our breath again waiting for the Supreme Court to announce their ruling on the 31st. We don’t want to get involved in Kenyan politics in this update (and honestly it’s really hard for us to to grasp it all anyway). Just pray.

Kid update: Hannah is starting her junior year at A&M studying Special Education and waiting tables. Mia is a senior, has started applying to colleges, and will be playing basketball this term. Moses is in 6th grade, super excited about being in the oldest grade at Titchie (the name of the elementary school here at RVA), and basically plays any sport that involves a ball!

We realized recently that we have been going nonstop since April and it really hit us at the end of last week how much pressure we have been under. We have moved, Allyson changed jobs, Hannah visited (yay!), nurses’ strike, election tension, terrorist attacks affecting the areas where Sports Friends works. It’s been a lot. Thankfully we were able to get away with some friends to a nearby cabin for 2 nights. We decided around 11:00 on Friday that we needed to get out of Kijabe for a break and we were packed and on the road by 5:30! It was a refreshing weekend where we were able to just relax and enjoy the fact that there was no cell phone coverage.

Tomorrow starts the first day of school for all 3 kids (on 2 different continents) and we will hopefully get back into a bit of a routine.

Also… we are getting really excited to have our nephew come visit at the end of this week!

Have a great week!
Shane and Allyson, Hannah, Mia, and Moses
