I’m sure you’ve seen Kenya in the news again this past week. Many of you have written to check in and be sure we are okay – thank you! We have written a short update to let you know all that has been going on in our world…
Shane spent last week at the coast with Lemmy, his Kenyan ministry partner (front row, white shirt) and some denominational leaders this past week before flying back to Nairobi on Saturday evening. On Sunday night there was a terrorist attack in the coastal town of Mpeketoni where at least 49 people were killed. There was a subsequent attack on Monday evening that killed nine people. We have pastors and leaders that live in Mpeketoni.
Please pray for those affected by the attacks. There are many things that we are not able to put on a public forum.
Also, please pray for Lemmy and his wife Hellen. Hellen is from Mpeketoni and has family and friends that live there. Some of her family had direct encounters with the terrorists. There is also uncertainty about the safety of some people who are missing. As you can imagine, it has been a difficult time for them.
On Friday Shane will be speaking at an annual pastor’s gathering in Nairobi. They have asked him to specifically share about the Sports Friends work at the coast and how they can continue to partner to push into these dark areas. Pray that this time will be encouraging and fruitful.
As you can imagine, all of this is a bit unsettling as Shane is often traveling to the coastal areas. In our next update, I (Allyson) hope to write a bit more about how we are personally doing in the midst of it all. As always, thank you for your support and prayers. We feel very loved!
